Scotland, home of the brave

In less than three weeks time we will move to St Andrews, Scotland. The reason for leaving Cambridge behind is that Sabine was offered a lectureship in psychology at the prestigious university there. I decided to keep my position at the EBI in Cambridge and will do a combination of working from home and commuting - will be exciting to see how this goes. We'll be renting a nice house close to the beach, look forward to that. I only hope the weather will be better than what people tell me...

Upgrade to Debian 3.1 aka Sarge

Tonight I finally upgraded the server running this website to the latest stable Debian branch. It all went mostly smooth as usual (see below for the few glitches I had), and I'm happy that I managed to upgrade this machine continually since the initial install of Debian 2.1 aka Slink back in 1999.

After being lazy for almost 5 months, I finally put my latest pictures into the gallery. These include some nice impressions from my skiing holiday in Tirol, Austria last week as well as the latest pictures of my son Luca.
A new challenge

After 3 years of work for the Vega project which was a mixture of web development and database curation / QC, I started a new job at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) last week. I'll work in the core database API team of the Ensembl project there, focussing more on the bioinformatics and db side than I did before. Looking forward to see what this shift will bring.
