About this site

This website runs on a machine which was originally designed as a gateway/firewall for my cable broadband connection at home. Upstream connection bandwidth is only around 700 kbit/s, so you shouldn't expect lightning speed. The hardware used to be a Pentium I 166 with 48 MB RAM, the current configuration is an AMD Athlon XP 2700 and 512 MB RAM.

The webserver is Apache 2.2.x on Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 (etch). For dynamic content, I use PHP 5 and a MySQL 5.0 backend database.

The blog uses a PHP toolkit for building dynamic news sites which I wrote. The picture gallery is based on 4images, but I modified it a lot, removing unneeded functionality to improve performance.
